Tanner Johnson

Tanner Johnson is the Policy Team Lead for the Office of Russia, Ukraine, and Eurasia. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Russia Desk Officer for ORUE from 2018-2021. He is responsible for working with U.S. companies to address market barriers hindering U.S. exports to Russia, Ukraine, and Eurasia, and helping to navigate an evolving and increasingly complex commercial relationship with the region. His portfolio includes other countries in Eurasia, including Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Georgia, and tracking China’s expanding influence and relationships in the region. From 2002-2018, Tanner worked with the Commerce Department’s SABIT Program, the International Trade Administration’s in-house technical assistance program primarily focused on Eurasia and South Asia, helping the program facilitate over $1 billion in U.S. exports to Eurasian program alumni. He graduated from Colgate University in 1999 and was awarded a Watson Fellowship for a year of independent study in Russia from 1999-2000.
